Back-end developer

The goal of the back-end developer is to develop and maintain Nico.lab’s microservice architecture to ensure a scalable, fast, and cost-effective execution of the AI-based imaging biomarkers.

Nico.lab is an Amsterdam based company that was started 3 years ago by a group of enthusiastic engineers and physicians from the Academic Medical Center (AMC). What we require:
  • You are proficient in Python.
  • You have experience in developing and deploying applications on Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, or Amazon AWS.
  • You know how to structure and organise your code to maintain a clean logical distinction between different software components.
  • You understand the value of unit tests and integration testing, and how to apply these techniques in your projects.
  • You have experience of working in an agile environment and you know how to collaborate with front-end developers, testers and business stakeholders to deliver working software in rapid iterations.
What we prefer:
  • You have experience with Node.js and JavaScript.
  • You have experience in designing applications using microservice architecture.
  • You have experience with Google Cloud, Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience using GIT or similar revision control systems.
  • Experience with continuous integration using CodeShip or Bitbucket Pipelines.

  • You are familiar with Google Cloud ML Engine.
  • You have experience with image processing, specially medical images.
  • You are familiar with the DICOM file format and the DICOM transfer protocol.

Front-end developer

The focus of the front-end developer is to develop and maintain a web application for the fast visualization of large medical images and also the visualization of the results of the AI based biomarkers.

What we require:
  • Experience in building successful, interactive web applications using JavaScript, HTML and CSS.
  • You know how to structure and organise your code to maintain a clean logical distinction between content, presentation, and behaviour.
  • You understand the value of unit tests and integration testing, and how to apply these techniques in your projects.
  • You have experience of working in an agile environment and you know how to collaborate with back-end developers, testers and business stakeholders to deliver working software in rapid iterations.
  • You understand accessibility, performance, progressive enhancement, and responsive design.
What we prefer:
  • You are familiar with React, Angular, or Polymer, and you understanding the benefits and drawbacks of using each one of them.
  • You have experience with the development of online image editors.
  • Familiarity with metalanguages and preprocessors like TypeScript/CoffeeScript and SASS/SCSS/PostCSS
  • Experience using GIT or similar revision control systems.

  • You have experience with Cornerstone (a JavaScript library to display interactive medical images)
  • You have experience with the development of IOS and Android apps.

AI/Software Engineer

What we require:

• Understand image processing (e.g. filtering, registration, distortion corrections)
• Develop large scale, robust and maintainable analysis software (Python, C++ or C#)
• Test, debug and document all code, experience with version control
• Debug/trace/profile programs for memory leaks, bugs and performance problems

What we prefer:

• Experience with TensonFlow, CNTK, or other Deep Learning frameworks
• Experience with Computer Vision projects (segmentation, classification, detection)
• MSc in Computer Science, Biomedical Imaging, Mathematics, or Artificial Intelligence
• High proficiency in Python, C++ or C#
• Being (or willing to be) up to date with recent AI papers
• Understand medical imaging and DICOM standard
